I joined Grant Thornton UK's insolvency and asset recovery team in 2022 after practicing as an insolvency and business rescue practitioner in South Africa for over 10 years. My expertise lies in administering insolvent companies and individuals across various industries, including investigations into their affairs, asset and debt recovery, and securing the best possible dividends for creditors.

My experience includes working on some of South Africa's largest contentious insolvency matters and one of Botswana's largest liquidations, a significant copper and nickel mine. My focus now is on commercial and asset-recovery strategy, particularly in global jurisdictions which include UAE, UK, Canada, US, India, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Guernsey, and BVI. I'm also part of the Africa desk in our London office, working on cross-border insolvency and asset recovery engagements in collaboration with other GT member firms.

I have extensive experience in various areas, including leading on the largest portfolio purchase to date for our Asset Recovery Fund (ARF), with a face value of $357m. This involved obtaining a worldwide freezing order in the UK and domestication of a foreign money judgment in the US against judgment debtors, and successful settlements with high-net-worth debtors across the portfolio. I was also part of the task team responsible for managing all legal matters relating to the liquidation of Botswana's largest copper and nickel mine. Other experiences include administering an insolvent diamond mine, assisting in the administration of the King Group (South Africa), and being appointed as one of the business rescue practitioners for a chain of specialty pet stores in South Africa and the UAE. These experiences involved various aspects, such as cross-border recognition applications, joint-venture agreement disputes, mediation, safeguarding assets, funding procurement, and obtaining landmark court judgments.

I am a sports fanatic and love to play and watch most sports, my favourites being golf and football. I love to barbeque or as they say in South Africa, “braai” and find it relaxing and therapeutic. My wife and three beautiful children are my inspiration in life, and the highlight of my day is seeing the kids running at me when I arrive home from work.
