Rupert Ingham

I support both public and private sector clients in the UK and internationally to make critical public infrastructure successful.

My role advising clients on planning, delivering, and operating infrastructure is founded on a 25-year career in engineering, transport planning, and commercial and financial advice. Although my core focus is on public transport, with a thorough understanding of the international rail industry, my range and experience extends beyond this to telecoms infrastructure.

I firmly believe that good commercial planning needs to be integrated with engineering and technical proposals from an early stage – as part of a strategic business case – and then maintained through commercial structuring and into procurement.

I've applied this approach to leading business cases for public investment; including a subsea data cable serving a Caribbean island, and the Belfast Hub transport interchange in Northern Ireland. I've also demonstrated it in commercial structuring and procurement; such as in an innovative operating and maintenance contract for a metro system in the Middle East; developing a rail contract in the UK with a shadow operator role for the forthcoming high-speed line; and helping a private contractor to develop its commercial approach in a tender for rail service transformation in North America.

My depth of both technical and commercial experience means I can confidently help clients develop approaches that are tailored to their unique aims and situation – strongly informed by good practice elsewhere, but not using it as an off-the-shelf solution.

Outside of work I'm a keen cyclist and cook. When travelling for work or leisure I always like to dine adventurously and visit food markets as I find this is a great window into different cultures.
