Grant Thornton UK LLP have advised AHJ Holdings (“AHJ” or “the Group”), the ultimate parent company of Alwen Hough Johnson Ltd and AHJ Europe AS on their sale to Miller.
Founded in 1973, AHJ is a highly regarded specialist reinsurance broker, with 90 employees across London and Scandinavia. AHJ has a focus on reinsurance across P&C and Marine & Energy, and also places business in a number of niche insurance lines.
Miller is a leading independent specialist (re)insurance broker with more than 1000 people operating in Lloyd’s, the London and international markets.
The acquisition of AHJ will be highly complementary to Miller’s reinsurance strategy, providing immediate scale and capability in treaty reinsurance whilst also providing access to AHJ’s strong positioning in Nordic, Caribbean and North American Treaty business.
The transaction will also bring new services and opportunities for both AHJ’s people and client base, in particular Miller’s facultative and capital advisory capabilities in addition to Miller’s market leading position across many specialty insurance lines throughout the London and International markets.
The Grant Thornton team worked closely with the leadership team of AHJ to understand the strategy and ambitions of the Group in the context of a potential transaction.
Using our in-depth sector experience across both reinsurance and specialty insurance, the Grant Thornton team focused on a select number of highly reputable parties who we felt had the potential to complement AHJ’s client-first philosophy and ability to develop long-term relationships, whilst also bringing new services and opportunities to both AHJ’s people and client base.
Upon selecting Miller as the Group’s preferred bidder, the Grant Thornton team led the process through to completion, leading negotiations and project managing transactional workstreams, delivering an excellent result for the AHJ business and its shareholders.
